'...To avoid the massive recession that expenditure reduction alone would generate, the price of non-tradeables has to fall substantially relative to that of tradeables. Such a shift is a decline in the real-exchange rate. This should move spending towards non-tradeables and potential supply towards tradeables. Under plausible assumptions the real exchange rate changes needed to shift the economy in the desired direction are large. The quicker the adjustment, the bigger they must be. That is a good reason for making those adjustments slowly, which is also a reason for avoiding postponing them indefinitely....'

'Fed erhöht US-Leitzins
Die US-Notenbank (Fed) hat den Leitzins zum 16. Mal in Folge um 25 Basispunkte erhöht und auch weitere Anhebungen nicht ausgeschlossen. Der für die Kreditwirtschaft maßgebliche Schlüsselzins liegt nun bei 5,00 Prozent und damit auf dem höchsten Niveau seit April 2001.'

'...I absolutely agree with your point senator…in fact in my testimony…for the joint economic committee I argue that at some point …a point which I did not specify…the FED would have to get off this 25 basis pointer-meeting escalator and adopting a more flexible approach…possibly varying its pace of tightening…possibly taking a pause…that has been the practice in the past…that has been the practice in the ECB and in the BoJ today…they move not at every meeting…they move based on the state of the eonomy…and based on the pace they wish which to tighten…so I did make that point…and I think it’s still relevant…we are looking…of course we are looking meeting by meeting and we will be aware waiting all options that we come to meet up in august…'

Qu'est ce qui se passe quand on passe de la 2eme a la 4eme en bagnole? (Faudra faire gaffe si l'on est en train de monter ou bien de descendre la pente...et oui...il y a quand meme une sacree difference...)...bref...50 basis points...cad. volonte de 'cooling off' the economy...explication: vouloir elargir les cycles (decisions du taux directeur) pour ne pas se retrouver immediatement (a chaque fois des 'petits' 25 basis points) a nouveau dans le 'rouge' (risque d'overheating?)....ergo, donc temps de reprise de l'economie est beaucoup plus long avec 50 basis points qu'avec 25 b.p. mais revers de la medaille si t (dans les cycles) est beaucoup plus long (avant de prendre une decision) on le tire vraiment assez beaucoup cet 'elastic'...i.e. l'economie...

'Die US-Notenbank Federal Reserve hält sich die Möglichkeit weiterer Zinserhöhungen offen, auch wenn sie ihren Leitsatz erneut bei 5,25 Prozent belassen hat. Die Fed betont, dass wegen der hohen Kapazitätsauslastung und der hohen Energie- und Rohstoffpreise weiter Inflationsrisiken bestünden.'

'Bernanke Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke testified today that “long-term fiscal imbalances” due to rising spending on entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security imperil the economy. “If early and meaningful action is not taken,” he warned Congress, “the U.S. economy could be seriously weakened, with future generations bearing much of the cost.” '

La Reserva Federal espera un
crecimiento del 3% en EE UU en 2007
BLOOMBERG, Washington El presidente de la Reserva Federal, Ben Bernanke, aseguró ayer que la economía estadounidense crecerá "probablemente a un ritmo moderado este año y el que viene, avance que se fortalecerá a medida que el lastre del sector inmobiliario vaya disminuyendo". El banco central de EE UU anticipa que el PIB de la mayor economía del mundo avanzará entre un - 2,5% y un 3% a finales de este año. Para 2008, el intervalo de crecimiento se sitúa entre el 2,75% y el 3%: El PIB de EE UU se anotó un alza del 3,4% el año pasado.
Bernanke declaró también ante la Comisión Bancaria del Senado que hay indicios de que las presiones inflacionistas han empezado a disminuir, gracias al abaratamiento del crudo y las materias primas. Aún es pronto, precisó, para tener la seguridad de que la inflación subyacente "se está moderando según lo previsto".
